A proper fitting gi is usually between 8 to 10” wider in circumference than the widest points of the body. For most people these points are typically either the chest or hips. The average gi is usually 10” wider than the body’s circumference and this allows enough fabric to wrap around and provides a comfortable fit to train and move. Satori standard size gis are based on this margin.
A proper fitting jacket usually ends at or below the crotch line when belted, and after washing and shrinkage. To complement a proper fitting gi, a belt should end at or near the hem of the jacket.
